for folks sake

Its spring and this last 7 days unstoppable earworm reflects that nicely

I ran some searches, but it seems I never posted Dar Williams. Somewhere in the pit of despair, I have two of her albums from the nineties, The Honesty Room and Mortal City - an old friend from university used to listen to her a lot. I hardly ever do nowadays, not for years actually, but this morning I woke up with an earworm and many hours later, I finally narrowed it down to this:

However, my favourite track was always this one - such a wonderful piece of storytelling.

And special mention to these two, which are perhaps more in keeping with the folksy vibe of this thread and TJ might appreciate more.

Might have to dig out those old albums and do a nostalgia. :)

Context: various melodies from the English folk suite by Vaughan Williams have been rattling round my head all week. One of my favourites, also today's specific earworm and by far the shortest in length, is called Green Bushes (starts 5m07s in this recording). Surely every film composer that ever tried to write a folksy score for pixies, farmers and hobbits has been inspired by this movement. Anywayyyy, tonight I went looking for vocal recordings, because I know it was originally a song, but not sure I ever heard it sung before, and soon stumbled upon this gem. It is just her and the lutist, but my god, what a voice, piercing my dark heart with its crystalline purity - I bet she would sound like angels in a cathedral. Love.

Today a friend got in touch asking if I had to time to work out the chords to this pretty little folk song from the TV show Rainbow, so it is easier for him to sus the finger-picking. Apparently Telltale were the resident band before Rod, Jane and Freddy. I used to watch Rainbow as a kid, but do not remember this at all, so it must have been before my time. Gotta agree with my mate, though – how enchanting!
