Music that doesn't fit anywhere else...

my jazz investigations have led me here

reckon nirvana suit funk better, but there we have it

Did l ever post Mahogany? I cannot remember. They are an artsy, multidisciplinary group founded in the nineties and have only sporadically released since (two albums, a compilation and sundries). I discovered them about fifteen years ago down a dream pop/shoegaze rabbit hole via Robin Guthrie's involvement with the second record and it was love at first listen.

Fave from The Dream of a Modern Day:

Fave from Connectivity!:

It's one of those bands that I like but seldom feel the urge to listen to.
I know what you mean. The two tunes I shared often feature in miscellaneous playlists I take travelling for can't-decide-what-to-listen-to randomness (I was on a train at the time of posting), along with one-off single Phase Break, which has more of a 'quirky disco' vibe than the others, but it is not often I play their records in full.

Newest tracks here, incidentally - did not realise they had put anything out this year until I went looking for the Phase Break link just now. Like!

Actually, listening again now, Scaffold is so quintessentially Mahogany, it could have been released any time during their back catalogue, whereas the outgoing wall of noise starting 3m26s in Polyvalence is a dead ringer for the break in Frozen by Curve to my ears.

Speaking of Curve, would they fit in this thread, maybe? Such an underrated band, especially the early Pubic Fruit/Doppelgänger/Cuckoo era - I used to rinse all three in my teens and had a massive girlcrush on Toni Halliday, who most people only know from that track she did with Leftfield. However, they are a bit of a mishmash and I would not know how to categorise them, as they kinda straddle shoegaze/indie and electronica/dance depending on the tune, while some of their bass lines feel more inspired by post-punk. Frozen linked above was my gateway, but these two from Cuckoo are probably my favourites:

It's all about that wall of sound...

😭

Buuuuuut then I remember The Colour Hurts, Horrorhead, Superblaster, All of One... so many bangers I could nominate! Still love 'em.
